THE RETREAT

Gabriella’s Borgo is a recently renovated medieval village, close to Casole d’Elsa and Volterra, in the Tuscan countryside.

The actual Borgo used to be a rural residence dating back to the 16th century. It is the probable birth place, in the 4th century, of Saint Attinia, a venerated saint from the Volterra area. Amongst its illustrious guests in the 1800’s, during the time the Borgo was a summer retreat from the ‘Scolopi‘ fathers, was Pope Pius the ninth. This Borgo is overall a place to enjoy with your heart, sourrounded by a soft landscape and a peculiar light which brings back forgotten emotions of interior freedom. It’s also a place, where one can experience a genuine Tuscany, with its tradition and land culture.

In the local tradition, one says that the Berignone Forest, facing the Borgo, is the one that inspired Dante Alighieri to write about the “Selva Oscura” where his Divine Comedy story starts.

The gardens of the Borgo, with paths lined with aromatic herbs, juniper hedges, myrtle and evergreens, reproduce a Mediterranean  environment. The characteristic ‘Osteria’, which used to be the old olive press, is the ideal place for a romantic candlelight dinner overlooking the amazing countryside, or a light lunch on the panoramic terrace.

Biography

Sid McNairy III Founder and owner of Lifeline Power Yoga, Sid McNairy III has been inspiring, guiding, leading and empowering people as a coach and Yoga instructor for more than 20 years. Having majored in Movement and Sports Science from Purdue University (BA in 1993) and receiving a Masters Degree in Sports Administration from Eastern Illinois University (MS in 1995), Sid’s path to healing and inspiring others was destined.

Sid first got into yoga in 1996 when coaching football at Northern Illinois University. One of his players, Justin McCareins, former player of the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans, had injured both of his hamstrings. Justin began doing yoga to find a way to heal, and it also became part of Sid’s life in order to understand his player’s journey.

Inspired by the impact that Yoga had on his player, Sid began to incorporate Yoga as an integral part of his team’s training. This led to the team’s first winning season in 23 years. As Sid developed his own Yoga practice, he also personally realized many health benefits. The biggest health turn around was the disappearance of his asthma which had plagued him for 30 years. He has also since found full range of motion in his right ankle that was fused in 1995. Along with the physical benefits, Sid has found that through his yoga practice he has let go of many emotional scars that had kept him from finding peace through many moments in his life.

Sid credits his parents with inspiring him to move forward and touch so many lives. Growing up with two successful parents, and yogis in their own right, his mother and father’s lifestyle practices instilled a foundation from which Sid could freely grow and become a yogi master. “I can… I will… I must…” was the mantra used in the McNairy household. This later became and has remained the basis of his studio’s mantra. Sid was also inspired by his teachers and coaches. While coaching, yoga continued to open Sid’s soul and caused a shift in Sid’s view of life that took him from coaching on the field to inspiring people on a mat.

Many yogis have also inspired Sid, among them Rodney Yee. The biggest influence on Sid’s yoga practice and his growth as an individual, however, has been by Baron Baptiste. Baron helped in allowing Sid to connect to his truth and live an authentic life. The Sequence that Baron teaches has helped to guide Sid in developing the foundation of the flow at Lifeline Power Yoga.

Sid went on to open Lifeline Power Yoga in 2004. Lifeline offers over 90 Yoga classes per week, plus many workshops and programs for those seeking a specific area of focus. Sid went on to build a teacher training program that has since birthed several hundred new Yoga instructors each year. In addition, this year Sid developed his Living Your Power Series of Yoga retreats, which are destination based retreats in Nicaragua and include his renown “Empowerment and Beyond” program, “Soul Surfing,” a Yoga/Surf camp for college students and two teacher training programs. Sid is an Ambassador for both Lululemon and Manduka, two worldwide Yoga clothing brands.

Sid has always been committed to giving back to the community. He continues to do year round philanthropic work benefiting the Baltimore Yogi Project and he is developing a free Yoga training for the citizens of Nicaragua.

Sid’s book Walking with Love, the story of a modern day yogi, is set to publish this year.

“In my life I have realized I cannot change the world, I am the only person that I can change. As I change I can affect my family, my family can affect our community, our community can affect our state, our state can affect our country, our country can affect the world. In the end I can affect the world and we all can change!”

He has rocked my world and I know that he can do the same for you!” Amy Zezulka Owner, Mystic Yoga Shala

“Sid is a remarkable individual who has brought our team to another level of training through yoga. We value his contributions to the success of our program!” Coach Janine Tucker, Women’s Lacrosse John Hopkins University

“You guys rock!!! I am a personal friend of Maria and Clayton. Clayton is the one responsible for suggesting that I take these classes. Since coming to your yoga classes, I’ve notice changes in how my body is looking and most importantly the way I feel emotionally and physically. Keep up the good work and I love the way you push us in the class room. I love that part.” Robert Scott, Hanover, Pa. Marine Engineer

“This past off season I wanted to incorporate some cross training into my exercise program. I had been curious about yoga for some time, so I decided to join the I Do Yoga Studio in Towson. Now I don’t know what kind of experience you guys have with yoga. I went into it thinking it would be a good relaxing way to learn some stretching techniques and maybe work on my core. Well in short, it totally kicked my ass. …I have been going at least twice a week since October, and it has made a tremendous difference for me. I’m starting this riding season stronger, more limber, and focused than ever. A side benefit has been my level of stress has dropped off considerably since I started. I’m trying not to sound all preachy, but joining this studio has made a big difference in my life. There are many benefits that transfer directly to cycling such as increased strength, balance, flexibility, and of course who couldn’t use to reduce their stress.” Brian Flynn, Cyclist, Towson, MD
